Steak Cook-off—May 9th, 2009
When: 5:00pm-8:00pm
Where: 172 E. Lane Avenue
On this coming Saturday, the Buckeye Barbeque Qlub
is hosting the THIRD Annual Steak Cook-off. This
event is open to all members for the entire event.
Or if non-members would like to compete, they can
come as well! During the competition, all members
can come and eat the tasty, juicy burgers that the
grill team will be grilling for our members. If you
would like to win trophies and prizes for your
grillin' skills with steak, please read the
following below, and email
bwallace@osubbq.com to enter your team!
The Competition:
The competition portion of the event will have 15
competitors grilling a large steak for 20 minutes
each. The steaks will then be judged by 4-6 VIP
judges: Alex Gardner, Faraz Khan, Drew Dillon, Mark
Newton of OSU Dinning Services (probable), Brian
Mooney of City BBQ (probable), and Evan Turner—
Sophomore Shooting Guard of the Ohio State Buckeyes
& BIG TEN 1st team (probable). Some of the
previously mentioned judges have not confirmed their
attendance, YET!
Entries to be a competitor is open to both members
and non-members. The member’s entry fee is $5.00 (to
cover the cost of the individual’s/team’s steak).
The non-member’s entry fee is $10.00 (to cover cost
of steak and other services throughout the event).
How to win and prizes:
The steaks will be judged by appearance, taste, and
how done the meat is when in the judges hands. 1st,
2nd, and 3rd place will win different prizes - equal
to their rank, respectively.
Email
BWallace@osubbq.com, to get your entry form
filled out!
The Steak Cook-off for non-entries:
For all of our members that attend the event on
Saturday, we are serving hamburgers, desert,
soda/pop, and other beverages (of course). We will
also have a DJ, and possibly a beer pong tournament.
Send Your Entries in ASAP
Entries can be made for an individual, or a team
performance. Once again, the entry-fee for our
members is $5.00, and for our non-members $10.00.
Send an email to Ben Wallace at
bwallace@osubbq.com.
Also, if you have any questions or suggestions,
please send them to Ben Wallace
(

Friday, April 24, 2009
On a beautiful Friday afternoon, over 30 BBQ lovers
came together to learn about the art from local
professionals. Among the speakers were:
Dr. Lynn Knipe – BBQ Meats
Extension Processed Meats
Specialist at The Ohio State University
Mark
Newton – Flavors from around the US (rubs and smoke)
Executive Chef, Campus Dining Services at The Ohio
State University
Brian Mooney – Cooking Tips and
Stories
Catering Director, City Barbeque
Anthony
Frazier – Starting a Business with BBQ Sauce
President, Urban Chefs
Attendees had the opportunity
to learn about different cuts of meat, sample
different BBQ rubs from around the US, ask questions
to a BBQ sauce entrepreneur, and learn the story
behind the successful City Barbeque. And what kind
of BBQ event would this be without three 16 hour
slow-roasted beef briskets, smoked hamburgers,
sausages, and corn pudding to conclude? Check out
pictures from this event in the Photo Gallery in the
Multimedia section of this site!
A special thanks
goes out to our esteemed guests for sharing their
BBQ expertise.
Don't miss the next class of the BBQ
101 series!

Sneak
peak of the Buckeye Barbeque Qlub Spring 2009 Membership T-Shirt |
|
We know we get a lot of questions about
what the t-shirt is going to look like, so we figured we would
